And so it begins!

So tomorrow sees the start of our rehearsal week. We’ve been preparing for the Fringe since October, more seriously since January.

We started in January with 15 plays suggested for the fringe, which was difficult to whittle down to the three that we present this year. We picked a production team soon after, and auditioned in April, having to turn away nearly twenty very good people!

The problems of financing the show has been a bit larger this year; we’re producing three of our own shows, and partially funding another one. The budget for this year’s Fringe is somewhere north of 15,000 pounds; no small expense for a student company.

Script writing and editing has continued pretty much for the last six months; the three scripts are now in pretty good state, and funny/touching/exciting as appropriate.

And tomorrow we start rehearsals for all three shows. As an amateur company, getting people together all at the same time is difficult, so we’ve found that the week before performances works the best. It’s an exciting week, and we have fun, but it’s hard work; more work than play.

So here we go again: see you in Edinburgh!
