Call for Scripts, Producers, and directors: Two Shades of Blue

Dear All,

August may seem a long way away, but we are already thinking about shows for Two Shades of Blue in Edinburgh for 2010. Two Shades of Blue, for those that don’t know, is a collection of (mostly) light entertainers that have a lovely time in Edinburgh in the summer. Our primary aim is fun! You can find out more info at http://www.twoshadesofblue.org.uk/

We are now looking for

1) Scripts
2) Producers
3) Directors

for Edinburgh 2010. This is quite a long e-mail, but if you are at all interested in writing/producing/directing then please let me know.

1) Scripts
You may have a script you have written or want to write, or a recommendation for someone else’s (whether professionally published or not), or maybe just some idea that you want to write something! We are
looking for something very much light entertainment, no contemporarary dance, and something that is also marketable and (ideally) royalty free. We have, in the past, performed a sketch show, kids shows, farces based on Victorian novels, and a modern pantomime, but anything lightly entertaining is acceptable. Past shows can be seen at the website, http://www.twoshadesofblue.org.uk/

We are aiming to take approximately 2 scripts this year, although more or less will be considered depending on quality of ideas and how many in the cast.

The deadline for ideas is the 5th November (Remember remember!) so you have one month. We need something, which should be of length about one page which tells:
– The show title and author
– A synopsis of the play, including scene breakdown.
– Why you think it would be fun to do
– Why you think people would want to see it
– The number of cast required to make it work.

Obviously if you have more information (like a completed script), do include it. Please send these to ihaveanideaforedinburgh2010@twoshadesofblue.org.uk
If you have made submissions in the past, please do resubmit them. We will be picking a small number of scripts which we will take to the next round, and ask to present a full draft script by end of January 2010. Final scripts will be asked for March 2010.

2) Producers

I will not be producing in 2010, so we are looking for a new Executive Producer. This is really a lot of fun, but does require a substantial amount of work throughout the year.

You certainly won’t be on your own; I hope that we can appoint a whole production team (and I hope that a lot of last year’s team that did an excellent job will help again!); I also promise to pass on advice where needed! I’m open in principle to the idea of having more than one person to take up the role, although I would prefer to have one person to be
responsible.

If you are interested, please contact me, and I can have a chat about what it entails. If no one volunteers, I will be taking a one man show to Edinburgh called “The Purple Joke”. I will send you all the video and MAKE YOU WATCH IT.

3) Directors

If you are keen on directing, would you like to register an interest now? We obviously will not appoint directors without knowing what shows are chosen, but it would be handy to have directors express an interest early as this may help us in choosing a script. Again, please contact me.

That’s about all; sorry for a long e-mail, but I hope it answers any questions you have! If not, you know where I am!

Yours,

Ben Parker
